No. 598, "The Honorable Roy Denton" | Walnut and Hard Maple Cutting Board, 18x12, Juice Groove
Walnut with two wide hard maple stripes, 18 by 12 inches and 1 1/8 inches thick, with a juice groove cut around the face.
The pale streaks are sapwood, not a mistake. Walnut trees are two colors and they are not sorry about it. Neither am I.
The color is natural. No stain, no dye. The light bands are the maple and the dark is the walnut, exactly as the tree grew it. Every board is cut from a different stack, so the figure is never the same twice.
Built edge grain for a hard, flat working surface that stays put under a knife. Milled, glued, flattened, shaped and sanded by hand in East Tennessee, then finished with food safe mineral oil and beeswax.
Care
Treat it like cast iron, not like a dish. Hand wash warm, towel dry, and stand it on edge to finish drying. Never the dishwasher and never a long soak. Oil it when it starts looking thirsty, about once a month.
